On 1 July 2025 Vietnam switched to a two-tier local government. Districts were abolished, the number of provinces and centrally-run cities fell from 63 to 34, and the country now has 3,321 wards, communes and special zones. Ho Chi Minh City absorbed Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, and many famous apartment addresses changed overnight.
If you are buying or renting, the new name is what you will see on new contracts and documents. Here is what changed for the best-known projects.
