Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel is the grand old hotel of Da Lat, opened in 1922 as the Langbian Palace on the hill above Xuan Huong Lake at 2 Tran Phu Street. Remodelled in the 1940s in art-deco style and later run as the Sofitel Dalat Palace, it now has about 73 rooms on three floors, set in gardens beside the Dalat Palace golf course. It is a hotel only; rooms are not sold.

Location

The hotel looks over Xuan Huong Lake from the hill on Tran Phu Street. Da Lat Cathedral is a few minutes’ walk, Da Lat Market about five minutes by car, and the Dalat Palace golf course is next door. Lien Khuong Airport is around 30–40 minutes away.

What you get

Rooms keep the period feel – high ceilings, fireplaces, deep soaking tubs and antique furniture – and many have lake views. Afternoon tea on the terrace is a local institution.

  • Le Rabelais French restaurant
  • Second restaurant and bar
  • Sol Spa with sauna
  • Health club
  • Library and terrace
  • Next to the Dalat Palace golf course

Prices and buying

There is nothing to buy here. Heritage villas and townhouses on the streets around Tran Phu and Tran Hung Dao occasionally come up for sale; check heritage rules and certificates carefully.

Renting and holiday use

Lead-in rooms have long cost more than USD 150 a night, with suites higher. It is a special-occasion stay rather than a long-term base.

Pros and cons

  • Pros: Da Lat’s most historic hotel, lake views, beautiful gardens, next to the golf course
  • Cons: old building with creaky charm rather than modern rooms, premium prices, nothing for investors

Who it suits

Travellers who want a heritage stay in Da Lat, golfers, and couples on a special trip.
